ACT records 773 new COVID-19 cases as mask rules set to ease

The ACT has recorded 773 new COVID-19 cases in the latest update as mask mandates in Canberra are set to ease later today.

Of the new cases, 410 were from PCR tests and 363 from RATs.

A large number of cases in the recent Canberra spike is from an outbreak at ANU where over 600 infections have been reported.

The ACT has now recorded 48,187 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic and 33 virus-related deaths.

There are currently 41 people in hospital with the virus with three in intensive care and none requiring ventilation.

66.6 per cent of ACT residents aged 16 and over have received a third dose of a COVID vaccine, while 78 per cent of children aged between 5 and 11 have received one shot.

Meanwhile, the ACT’s mask mandate will ease from 6pm today, largely bringing Canberra’s into line with similar requirements in NSW.

However, masks will still be required in ‘high-impact’ setting such as public transport, aged care and hospital facilities, disability workers and more.
