Junior league finals
The Canberra Region Rugby League (CRRL) Junior Rugby League season comes to an end this weekend as 38 sides take to Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan for the Junior Grand Finals. Fourteen clubs will be featured over the course of the three days. The action begins on Friday 30 August 6pm with both the Under 16 Boys grand finals. The last match for the weekend will be the inaugural grand final of the Under 18 Girls competition, 5.45pm.
Sport and rec fair
The second Gungahlin Community Sports and Recreation Fair will be held at the Gungahlin Enclosed Oval on Thursday 5 September 3.30-6pm and will provide the opportunity for local sporting organisations to showcase their programs for families and community members.
School sports action
The School Sport Australia 12&U Football Championships are being held in Canberra this week, 26-30 August, with 210 students representing ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, VIC and WA competing.
One Cycling roadshow
Throughout September, BMX Australia, Cycling Australia and Mountain Bike Australia will host a series of roadshows to discuss the One Cycling project. An event will be held in Canberra on Monday 9 September 6-9pm, venue to be advised. Tickets via Eventbrite.
Wimp to warrior
A night of fights will be held at the Hellenic Club, Woden on Saturday 21 September as the men and women from series four of Wimp to Warrior step into the cage for the first time. Doors open 5.30pm, first fight 6pm. Tickets: From $45 via Eventbrite.
Serving to win
The University of Canberra women’s volleyball team has qualified to compete against the best university teams in Australia at the end of September after winning the Unisport Nationals Division 2 title in July.
Miller joins Brumbies
The Brumbies have announced that Will Miller will join the club from the NSW Waratahs, having signed a two-year contract with the club.
Community netball awards
Jonathan Toze of Tuggeranong District Association was names the ACT winner in the 2019 Australia Post One Netball Community Awards. Mr Toze was nominated for his commitment to developing and implementing a pathway for all-abilities players within the traditional structure of netball. An advocate for inclusion within the sport, he has successfully incorporated an all-abilities program at the Tuggeranong netball centre with weekly games and skill development.
