One year since the pandemic became part of life, Australia Post has released a new set of stamps featuring illustrations of essential workers to honour their ongoing contributions and the associated challenges they face.
The Frontline Heroes commemorative stamps celebrate teachers, healthcare workers, Australian Defence Force members, police, supermarket staff, and food delivery workers.
Postal workers, who Australians continue to rely on heavily while avoiding crowded shopping centres, are also celebrated in the colourful stamp set.
Australia Post executive general manager, Nicole Sheffield, said the stamp designs represented everyday heroes who continue to keep the country moving, providing important services to the community.
“These brave individuals have been saviours to us all through the last 12 months, caring for our most vulnerable and helping us cope with the many impacts of COVID-19,” she said.
“Healthcare workers have tested millions, Australian Defence Force and the police services have helped monitor our borders and quarantine arrangements, and educators have been quick to adapt to online learning.
“Our posties, delivery drivers and supermarket staff have kept businesses running and provided access to essential products and services, and we thank them together with all Australians for their continued efforts.”
The stamps illustrate scenes that are now familiar to most Australians: a child waving to her classmates and teacher through a webcam; medical staff smiling through their PPE; masked-up military and police contributing to border and quarantine management; and a delivery driver bearing a box full of groceries.
The collection includes five $1.10 stamps designed by The Australia Post Design Studio and illustrated by Robert Elliott.
Other items in the range include a mini sheet, stamp pack, maxi cards and first day cover.
