The first T20I
England took the lead in the best of three series with a thrilling 8-run victory in the opening T20 in Perth on Sunday 9 October.
Australia won the toss and decided to bowl in a decision that quickly backfired as the England openers put on a 132-run opening stand. Alex Hales belted 84 off 51 balls, while skipper Jos Buttler smashed 68 off just 32. The rest of the batting line up struggled once the openers were removed as they posted 6/208 from their 20 overs.
Nathan Ellis was clearly the pick of the bowlers for Australia as he picked up 3/20 off his four overs, while Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams and Marcus Stoinis picked up a wicket each.
Chasing the 209 for victory, Australia got off to a poor start with Green dismissed for just one run. David Warner was outstanding for the Aussies, belting 73 off 44 balls before being caught in the deep chasing late runs. Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade all put together little cameos but it wasn’t enough as the Poms held on for victory.
