A born litigator, solicitor Jessica Carlisle-Goldblatt has a mind for facts and an open ear to clients during one of the most difficult times in life.
Starting at Blumers Personal Injury Lawyers in 2020 as a paralegal, Jessica went on to be a law clerk where she gained invaluable teachings from a tenured female mentor.
โWe are there at a time when people are trying to put their lives back together. I love getting to learn and challenge myself in a way that does good and has an impact on real peopleโs lives,โ she says.
Jessica earned her Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the Australian National University, where she also studied science and French, juggling a wide range of knowledge and interests.
โThe beauty of law is that it isnโt pigeonholed,โ she says. โYou are not limited to practising law as a criminal lawyer or a family lawyer.
โWorking in personal injury, I get to study medical records every day and work with medical negligence cases, an overlap of two major interests of mine.โ
Today, Jessica is in the final stages of her Bachelor of Science majoring in Biochemistry at the University of Melbourne.
Since graduating from the ANU, she has been applying her scientific mind to personal injury cases at Blumers.
โI was lucky to come to work at Blumers because this type of work suits me very well. I didnโt think I would ever find such a good fit straight away,โ says Jessica.
โWhile I was hesitant to become a solicitor โ as I really enjoyed working with my mentor โ since Iโve become one itโs been great working with the other solicitors. Thereโs a huge pool of knowledge and experience to learn from at Blumers.
โI met Mark [Blumer] at my first interview. He interviewed me with Amy Burr. He was saying that heโs meant to be retired, and heโs been saying that ever since,โ she laughs.
โI remember it felt more like a conversation and less like an interview, which was lovely. Mark is a talker; he likes to get to know people and he always has a bit of wisdom to pass on.
โLooking back, that first interview was very similar to the rest of my experience at Blumers,โ she says.
โBlumersโ work culture breaks the mould; Itโs collaborative with an atmosphere of no one person having all the answers. We always want to collaborate, including the senior solicitors.
โItโs an environment where you really can ask questions and learn, rather than get told what to do.โ
โDefinitely not ambulance chasers! My case was a medical negligence issue that was extremely complex. These guys kept me informed and worked tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcome. Very happy, highly recommend.โ

When asked what makes Blumers stand out from the rest, she answers โThe orange!โ
โA lawyerโs job is to explain the jargon to clients so that they can make an informed decision. A lawyer shouldnโt be telling a client what to do, they should be providing the best advice.
โThatโs why Blumersโ collaborative environment works the best in personal injury.โ
