Blumers Lawyers profile: Kathryn Day

With extensive legal experience, solicitor Kathryn Day has been practising law since October 2021, quickly earning the trust of everyday Canberrans with her warm guidance through the most challenging times.

Kathryn has worked internationally in the legal field, briefly in Canada before she arrived in Australia in 2000.

After moving here for love, Kathryn became a legal assistant that year, finding Blumers Personal Injury Lawyers soon after it was established in the ACT 22 years ago.

โ€œIt was my very first job in a brand-new country,โ€ she smiles.

Kathryn became a paralegal in 2013, while she studied her Bachelor of Laws at the University of Canberra.

As a young mum of four kids, she had always been interested in law, โ€œbut I didnโ€™t have the courage to do anything about it until 2013, when my husband gave me a Valentineโ€™s Day card with the application fee to go back to schoolโ€.

โ€œWhat I loved about practising law back then is still true today โ€“ the ability to help people in a way that expands on what I could do as a legal assistant,โ€ says Kathryn. Today, she works as a solicitor in the very same office she was hired in over two decades ago.

โ€œNow as a solicitor, I know itโ€™s a highly challenging profession and the more I do it, the more I love it.โ€

Much like Blumers itself, Kathryn has years of experience exclusively in the personal injury field, providing competent, focused, and specialised service, and has found her forever home within Canberraโ€™s tightknit community.

โ€œIโ€™ve always found Canberra is very family-oriented, and Blumers exemplifies that,โ€ she says.

โ€œWhen I first met Mark and Noor [Blumer], I was brand-new to the country, and feeling a bit insecure. I was pregnant with my first at the time, and they knew that, and I thought that would rule me out.

โ€œBut it didnโ€™t. I knew right then that Mark and Noor were ahead of their time. They treated me no differently to anyone else, which has turned into 22 years with them,โ€ Kathryn smiles.

โ€œAs a company, Blumers exemplifies what Canberra is all about โ€“ a tightknit, family-oriented community.

โ€œI had great assistance with my transition from paralegal to solicitor. The directors provided expert advice and guidance, but they also let me develop my own style of legal practice.

โ€œThereโ€™s an African proverb: โ€˜If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.โ€™

โ€œAs a law firm, we donโ€™t practise alone here, we practise together โ€“ and thatโ€™s what makes us go far.โ€

In her role as a solicitor, Kathryn does her utmost to earn the trust invested by clients in need of help in a vulnerable situation.

โ€œI try to approach every case with empathy. What I hear the most is that my clients trust me, which is the highest compliment I could receive.โ€

For a lawyer you can trust, find Kathryn Day at Blumers Lawyers, Level 12, 15 London Circuit, Canberra City.

โ€œI cannot thank Kathryn and Phil enough for their help and guidance with my medical negligence case. They kept me informed and updated about my case and how it was progressing and made sure that we had a fantastic outcome. Highly recommend them!โ€
