Canberra conference about design and sustainability

Exploring the intersection of design and sustainability, unravelling the synergies that exist between the two, and delivering deep insights into the role of design in shaping products, systems, and services that contribute to a more sustainable world will be unpacked at an exclusive event in Canberra early this month.

On Thursday 7 September, design sustainability experts will come together at the University of Canberra to explore the intersection of design and sustainability and its role in shaping products, systems, and services that contribute to a more sustainable world. The event is being organised in collaboration with Designit, an experience innovation company within the Wipro group of companies.

Organisations often grapple with integrating sustainability into their business practices, and this event will offer some practical advice on how to counter them, as experts bring their lived experiences to the table. “This thought-provoking debate” will unpack the myths, debunk the confusion, and explore solutions that could influence sustainable design methodologies in the future.

“Participants can look forward to hearing our global proprietary insights, a sharing of different perspectives, and exploring ways that design can be harnessed to drive a sustainable change within and beyond organisations,” said Joff Outlaw, Managing Director of Designit, Australia and New Zealand.

The evening will feature engaging discussions along the themes of why organisations often grapple with sustainability; the fundamental principles of sustainability through design; the vital role of mindset in differentiating sustainability laggards from leaders; and demonstrating the journey from purpose to progress in real-world scenarios.

“Building sustainable communities is at the heart of what we do at University of Canberra,” said Craig Mutton, Chief Digital Officer of the University of Canberra, “and we are proud to collaborate with Wipro’s Designit team to initiate conversations between Canberra’s leaders in business, government and academia on how they can incorporate sustainability when designing customer experiences.”

Panellists include industry experts Elizabeth Adcock, Service Designer for Environmental Reforms and Environment Information, Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water; Susan Kenniston, Global Head of Sustainability, Wipro; and Professor Ross Thompson, Director at Centre for Applied Water Science, University of Canberra.

In a distinctive move towards sustainability, Designit has partnered with C2Zero, a platform dedicated to carbon offset initiatives, and all event proceeds will go towards halting climate change. The link to register along with further details can be found here.

“Designit is a call to action to make the difference we want to see in the world,” the company states. “Propelled by restless explorers, strategic designers, bold creatives, compassionate storytellers, visionary technologists and experience makers – together with our partners – we drive shared progress within your organisation and beyond it.”

The event will take place at the Ann Harding Conference Centre, Bruce, Thursday, 7 September, 5.30 pm.
