Tragedy struck after a meningococcal outbreak at the Spilt Milk music festival. An 18-year-old girl from the NSW South Coast girl contracted the disease and died at Canberra Hospital. NSW and ACT Health authorities urged festival goers to be cautious of symptoms as the disease can turn deadly in a matter of hours.

The three killers – a former school principal, his brother, and his sister-in-law were all killed during the shootout. It was soon revealed that the trio had been living off-grid and had links to online fringe conspiracy groups, referencing anti-vaccine sentiment and claiming high profile shootings were staged.
