Canberra’s legal services launch one-stop legal portal

Canberra’s legal services have come together to launch a one-stop legal portal to help Canberrans find the right legal information, and the right legal service, for them, as the whole ACT community has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The new website is designed to assist ACT residents – whether you’ve lost work, are struggling to pay rent or are relying on Centrelink for the very first time.

Canberra Community Law has today launched Covid-19 Canberra Legal Help with the support of our colleagues at Legal Aid ACT, Economic Justice Australia, Women’s Legal Centre ACT and CARE Financial Counselling to make sure that Canberrans can get up-to-date legal information they can trust all in the one place,” said Canberra Community Law solicitor, Sophie Trevitt.

“COVID-19 has impacted on everyone, and the last thing anyone needs is to have to run around looking for legal information when they’re already stressed about paying rent, looking for work or trying to navigate Centrelink.

“Over the last few weeks and months, Canberra Community Law has been taking calls from every corner of our community. We’ve heard from people who have never accessed Centrelink before who need help getting started. We’ve had calls from public housing tenants who aren’t sure what their rights and responsibilities are during the pandemic. And, we’ve given advice to renters who are struggling to make ends meet.

“COVD-19 Legal Help is a one-stop portal for Canberrans to access up to date legal information that they can trust – all in the one place.

“The website is growing every day and you can expect to find more information added over the coming weeks and months. Right now, we have easy to understand legal information, fact sheets, FAQs and videos on Centrelink, Housing, Crime and COVID-19 and going to court.

“Even if Canberrans can’t find all the information they need on our website, Canberra Community Law can connect Canberrans with the right service for them if they give us a call.

“COVID-19 is hard enough already, without confusion over what help is available and how to get it. COVID-19 Canberra Legal Help puts all that information in the one spot for our community.”

The new website will be launched at midday today, Monday 25 May, at canberracovidlegalhelp.org.au
