Canberra’s legal services launch one-stop legal portal

Canberra’s legal services have come together to launch aย one-stop legal portal to helpย Canberransย find theย rightย legal information, and the right legal service, forย them, as the whole ACT community has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The new website is designed to assist ACT residents – whether youโ€™ve lost work, are struggling to pay rent or are relying on Centrelink for the very first time. ย ย

โ€œCanberra Community Law has today launched Covid-19 Canberra Legal Help with the support of our colleagues atย Legal Aid ACT, Economic Justice Australia, Womenโ€™s Legal Centre ACT and CARE Financial Counsellingย to make sure that Canberrans can getย up-to-date legal informationย theyย can trust all in the one place,โ€ said Canberra Community Law solicitor, Sophie Trevitt.ย ย

โ€œCOVID-19 has impacted on everyone, and the last thing anyone needs is to have to run around looking for legal information when theyโ€™re already stressed about paying rent, looking for work or trying to navigate Centrelink.

โ€œOver the last few weeks and months, Canberra Community Law has beenย taking calls fromย every corner of our community. Weโ€™ve heard from people who have never accessed Centrelink before who need help getting started. Weโ€™ve had calls from public housing tenants who arenโ€™t sure what their rights and responsibilities are during the pandemic. And,ย weโ€™ve given advice to renters who are struggling to make ends meet.ย ย

โ€œCOVD-19 Legal Help is a one-stop portal for Canberrans to access up to date legal information that they can trust โ€“ all in the one place.

โ€œThe website is growing every day and you can expect to find more information added over the coming weeks and months. Right now, we have easy to understand legal information, fact sheets, FAQs and videos on Centrelink, Housing, Crime and COVID-19 and going to court.

โ€œEven if Canberrans canโ€™t find all the information they need on our website, Canberra Community Law can connect Canberrans with the right service for them if they give us a call.

โ€œCOVID-19 is hard enough already, without confusion over what help is available and how to get it. COVID-19 Canberra Legal Help puts all that information in the one spot for our community.โ€

The new website will be launched at midday today, Monday 25 May, atย canberracovidlegalhelp.org.auย
