Sydneysiders will get a taste of some Canberra magic when Capital favourite Quizzic Alley opens its doors in Drummoyne.
Quizzic Alley’s owner, Australian gold-medal Paralympian skier Michael Milton – or Nearly Legless Mick to Canberra’s magical folk – says Harry Potter fans have flocked to the Canberra store in Fyshwick from around the country, including Sydney, to get their magic fix.
“Every weekend, every school holidays, during the ski season … we get a lot of Potterheads from Sydney dropping in to Quizzic Alley,” he says.
“Some even make the trip especially.
“They keep asking us to open another store, so we’re excited to be bringing the magic a whole lot closer to a lot more fans.”
Quizzic Alley Sydney will be moving into the original Bank of New South Wales building in Drummoyne, transforming the space into much more than just a place to buy licensed Harry Potter merchandise.
Mick says the team is “pretty excited” to be taking over the building which was built in 1928 and reminds him of “a certain magical bank”, referring of course to the magical bank Gringotts in the Harry Potter world.
“We’re having so much fun fitting it out,” he says, although sadly there won’t be a Ford Anglia in the Sydney space like there is in Canberra.
“The two stores are completely different from the outside and, although the merch we sell will be the same, the experience in Drummoyne will be new … we can’t get a car in there but there is still something pretty special to see,” Mick says.
“New products are arriving daily and we’re juggling that with store fit-out but we’re making progress thanks to our amazing team in both Canberra and Sydney.
“We can’t wait to open the doors, welcome fellow Potterheads and talk all things magical.”
No opening date has been set yet, but Mick and the team hope to have the Quizzic Alley Sydney store up and running by the first week of December.
