Criminal leaves gun and drugs in car serviced at Belconnen garage

Talk about criminal negligence: a man allegedly forgot to take a gun, ammunition, hard drugs, and a large amount of cash, out of his BMW when he took it to be serviced in a Belconnen auto shop yesterday.

The mechanic spotted the weapon, and called the police – with predictable results.

ACT Policing officers stated that they found a 3D printed and modified firearm with a plastic grip and metal barrel; a .22 calibre hollow point round of ammunition; approximately $2,500 cash; two mobile phones; and several clip seal bags believed to contain a trafficable amount of methamphetamine.

The police seized the vehicle and the firearm, and arrested the owner of the car a short time later.

The 33-year-old man from Campsie, NSW, was charged with unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition, and trafficking a controlled substance.

The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.
