Ever look around your office or workplace and wonder what could brighten things up or bring some more joy to the space? Here at CW we believe a wagging tail and fluffy smile can lighten any atmosphere – and National Take Your Dog to Work Day, Friday 23 June, is the perfect excuse to spend the day with our furry buddies.
This Friday, offices across the country will be full of pooches great and small. The key to ensuring a good day for all is knowing your dog. If they aren’t great in social situations, probably best they stay in retirement. Chief Executive Officer of RSPCA ACT, Michelle Robertson, says that dogs in offices can be a positive experience for both pooch and worker.
“With the necessary planning, care and consideration, your pooch will have a great day out and you will also feel more relaxed and happier by simply looking at your dog when the stresses of the day start kicking in,” she says.
The leader of the local animal welfare organisation does suggest that there are a few things to take into consideration before putting the leash on your dog’s collar and introducing them to the workspace. She says it is important to be a considerate pet owner, mindful of your colleagues, and ensure a safe space for the dog to retreat to.
“Co-ordinate with colleagues if multiple dogs are coming in to have meet and greets with other dogs in an outside space,” Ms Robertson says.
Down to the nitty gritty, and you must allow adequate toilet breaks for your pooch. When packing your lunch, remember to put in some snacks for your canine along with some bowls, toys, bedding, and cleaning materials (accidents can happen).
“Exercise your dog before going into work to burn off energy and help doggo be calmer and more inclined to snooze next do your desk,” she says.
Most importantly, Ms Robertson says, is to ensure your dog gets as many pats as possible throughout the day.
“If you don’t have a dog but wish you did, don’t worry, we have some great dogs available for adoption at RSPCA ACT who are desperate for their pawfect match and furever home,” she says.
