28-year-old man killed after colliding head-on with truck on Federal Highway

A 28-year-old man has been killed after his station wagon collided head-on with a truck on the Federal Highway earlier this morning, Tuesday 8 November.

About 7.30am, emergency services were called to the Federal Highway, Bywong, north of Queanbeyan following reports of the crash.

Police have been told that a Ford Falcon station wagon, travelling south, collided head-on with a Mercedes B-double truck. The truck then swerved and collided with a Toyota Hilux utility.

The driver of the Ford died at the scene.

The drivers of the truck and utility are uninjured and are assisting police with inquiries, while the 24-year-ol truck driver has been taken to Queanbeyan hospital for mandatory testing.

Emergency services remain at the scene of the fatal crash. A crime scene has been established and police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The southbound lanes of the Federal Highway remain closed with local traffic diversions in place. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and plan ahead as further delays are expected.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
