Giants AFLW side heading to Adelaide

After spending the past two weeks in the southern NSW city of Albury, the Giants AFLW team is on the move again and will relocate to Adelaide tomorrow, 15 January.

The Giants relocated to Albury from Sydney on 1 January with the intention of moving into Victoria before heading to Western Australia for their round one game against Fremantle. However, subsequent border closures have removed Victoria as a viable option with an alternative destination required.

With the South Australian border set to open to regional NSW from midnight this Thursday, the Giants are able to relocate to Adelaide, having now spent more than 14 days out of Greater Sydney.

The Giants will now play a practice match against the Crows this Sunday, 17 January 12pm at Norwood Oval.

The move to Adelaide ensures the Giants satisfy current border guidelines and can play round one in Perth against the Fremantle Dockers on Sunday 31 January.

Giants General Manager of Football Jason McCartney thanked Albury and praised the club for their attitude towards the move.

“We thank the Albury City Council and the wider Albury community for welcoming us over the past two weeks,” said McCartney.

“We’ve had great facilities and everything needed to continue our program at the highest possible level.

“We’ve seen once again over the past fortnight that it’s an ever-changing landscape but we’re working with the AFL for the best possible outcome to see the season continue as planned.

“Once again we thank our players and staff for the way they’ve embraced the move with open arms and continued to work diligently to ensure they are ready for round one.”
