The GWS Giants will host an AFLW game in the Riverina for the first time with Canberra set to miss out on a match – as well as an AFL pre-season fixture – as the UNSW Canberra Oval will be unavailable due to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
“We would have loved to continue our record of playing at UNSW Canberra Oval,” Giants CEO David Matthews said. “However, with the AFLW season coinciding with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, UNSW Canberra Oval is unavailable at this time. We look forward to resuming our strong record in Canberra in the seasons to come.”
The AFLW match will be held at Robertson Oval, Wagga Wagga on Saturday 7 March against Richmond. The AFL side will also take on Richmond at the same venue on Sunday 8 March in a Marsh Community Series fixture.
Meanwhile, local AFL fans have plenty to look forward to with the Giants’ AFL side set to host the Western Bulldogs in a Friday-night blockbuster at UNSW Canberra Oval on Friday 3 April.
The Giants will also host the Gold Coast Suns in Canberra on Sunday 26 April as well as the Brisbane Lions on Saturday 1 August, in a re-match of the 2019 semi-final at the Gabba.
