Have YourSay on the future of Florey dry land Oval

Florey’s dry land oval future look and feel will be shaped by a six-week community consultation process starting this week.

The community survey to refresh a portion of the popular space is now open on the ACT Government’s YourSay platform.

“The ACT Government is keen to hear from the Florey Primary School community and the wider local community to gather ideas and feedback on the future redevelopment of Florey Oval,” education minister Yvette Berry said.

The school community has already suggested a sporting oval, bike track, and shaded areas.

“This is especially exciting for Florey Primary School students who use this space every day and want to see their ideas come to life,” Ms Berry said.

Feedback from the survey will inform initial concept plans and help identify a design option for the oval’s refresh.

The preliminary design concept plans will then also be shared through the ACT Government YourSay platform – where the community will have a further opportunity to provide feedback before the designs are finalised.

The community consultation follows a motion last year by local Greens MLA Jo Clay, member for Ginninderra, calling on the ACT Government to listen to communities to develop dryland ovals in a way that meets their needs.

Ms Clay called the Florey Oval a great pilot model for a dryland oval community upgrade.

“It’s great to see the opening of consultation today to make sure the community gets what it wants on this site,” she said.

“Public spaces are a glue that hold communities together,” Ms Berry said. “Accessible and well-designed open spaces allow people to relax, exercise, meet, play, chat, connect, and enjoy their natural environments.

“The ACT Government is committed to delivering natural open spaces that promote healthy lifestyles, provide habitats for wildlife, and mitigate the effects of climate change.”

The Education Directorate invites community members, including children and young people, to have their say through the online YourSay survey to help shape the future elements of this space.

Consultation closes on Friday, 7 September.
