Healthy Harold to resume ACT school visits

For many millennials and Gen Xers from across the ACT, taking lessons from a giraffe named Healthy Harold is one of their most vivid schooling memories.

For over 40 years now, Healthy Harold has taught generations of children across Australia about their health and hygiene in the best way possible, by making it so fun kids donโ€™t even realise theyโ€™re learning.

And his delightful school visits have been one of the forgotten casualties of the COVID-19 shutdown.

For the past eight weeks, Life Education, Haroldโ€™s management team, were forced to take their programs online for students in the ACT and NSW.

Australiaโ€™s most lovable and famous giraffe now has received the green light to visit children in the ACT and NSW following the recent government announcement that incursion bans are being lifted from 15 June.

Healthy Harold is excited to be heading back around the ACT, with bookings for 12 schools locally that will put him in front of approximately 2,200 students.

Life Education NSW CEO Jonathon Peatfield said the news has been welcomed by schools across Canberra and NSW, with many curious to know when Harold would be back in person.

โ€œAlthough our Life Education online program has been very popular, children have been missing seeing Healthy Harold in โ€˜personโ€™,โ€ he said.

Mr Peatfield said the time spent out of the classrooms has allowed Life Education to improve their training and development for educators, who are all eager and prepared to be back in the classroom.

Healthy Haroldโ€™s visits will look a little different post-COVID, with the Life Education mobile learning centres not rolling out for some time.

โ€œIn line with infection control procedures and social distancing measures, for the time being students will experience the program via direct delivery in classrooms or school halls,โ€ he said.

โ€œHowever, I can confirm that the star of the show, Healthy Harold, will most certainly be in attendance.โ€
