If you have a Cavoodle or domestic short hair cat named Luna, congratulations – you have the most popular pet breed and name combination in Canberra in 2022.
Depending on how keen you are to be part of a trend, this may be claws for concern.
“In July, the ACT Government introduced compulsory annual cat registration in the ACT to strengthen responsible pet ownership, following the introduction of annual dog registration in 2021,” said Chris Steel, ACT Minister for Transport and City Services.

“Annual registration provides Domestic Animal Services with access to up-to-date information, so they can contact owners should the need arise, and return lost or roaming pets to their families where they belong.
“One bonus is that the annual registration process also provides us with information about popular dog and cat names and breeds in the ACT, and alerts us to changing trends.”
