Man charged after Woden fire spree

ACT Police have charged a 32-year-old man with one count of building arson, and six counts of property damage, after a number of fires in Phillip yesterday, Tuesday 12 May.

ACT Fire and Rescue were called to a fire at the Woden Hotel in Phillip at about 5.15am that was deemed suspicious. The fire was extinguished and no one was injured.

A second fire was extinguished at the Woden Bus Interchange at around 5.20am, and five small fires were discovered at various locations outside the shopping centre between 5.25am and 6.05am.

The man was apprehended and charged by ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations a few hours later, at around midday.

The man has expected to face the ACT Magistrates court today, Wednesday 13 May.
