A 31-year-old man is in custody and due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (4 November) in relation to a drive-by shooting that took place on Goyder Street in Narrabundah at about 2.40pm yesterday.
At that time, a vehicle approached a house before firing around five shots that struck the building and a vehicle parked outside.
ACT Policing Chief Police Officer Neil Gaughan told ABC Radio Canberra this morning that yesterday evening as police were doing a doorknock, the person came back and fired more shots.
After that second attack, the man was quickly detained by police.
Police executed a search warrant at a property in Wright about 10.30pm yesterday. The 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to the ACT Regional Watch House.
Police also seized a vehicle last night they believe was involved in the attack, and are conducting forensic examinations on it.
The man will face court on charges including act endangering life, discharging a firearm and property damage.
There were two adults and a child inside the Narrabundah house at the time of the shooting, none of whom were injured by the attack.
“It was a targeted attack and there’s no threat to public safety,” Chief Police Officer Gaughan said.
“It’s not actually OMCG related is the information we’ve got … there’s potential for a debt involved of some type.
“We’ve still got to work out the motive, but with the people involved, it does point toward some type of underlying criminal behaviour.”
According to AFP Forensics, early indications at the crime scene yesterday led them to believe the attack was potentially conducted with a rifle, but that’s still to be confirmed, and that there was either one or two offenders involved in the shooting.
“We’re still investigating whether anyone else was involved,” said Detective Inspector Matt Reynolds.
No surrounding properties were damaged by the shooting.
