MBA ACT CEO Michael Hopkins to leave Canberra

Master Builders ACTโ€™s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Hopkins, will take up a new leadership rรดle with Master Builders Queensland next month. He has worked at the MBA ACT for nine years, and been its CEO since 2017.

โ€œIt has been an absolute privilege to serve Master Builders ACT for the past nine years and lead our industry through some of the most turbulent times for our industry in a generation,โ€ Mr Hopkins said.

As CEO, Mr Hopkins advocated for improved building quality; led the building and construction industry through the COVID pandemic and the resulting workforce shortages, supply chain disruptions and economic impacts, a challenge that continues today; helped to raise more than $2 million for local charities through three MBA Charity House projects; expanded the training organisation and apprentice program, and established dedicated women in construction programs; and positioning the MBA ACT as a leading voice to support the Territoryโ€™s energy transition towards a sustainable built environment, a spokesperson said.

โ€œThe Executive Committee of Master Builders ACT is immensely proud of the achievements our organisation has made for our industry under Michaelโ€™s leadership,โ€ MBA ACT president Frank Porreca said

โ€œMichael โ€ฆ immediately set the organisation on a path for growth by expanding our service delivery for members and significantly growing our registered training organisation.

โ€œWe are excited that he will be remaining in the Master Builders family, taking up a leadership role with Master Builders Queensland so he can continue to support the interests of the building and construction industry.โ€

The Master Builders ACT executive committee has begun a national recruitment process to select a new CEO to lead the Association.

Until then, the Associationโ€™s finance director, Ziad Zakhout, will become acting CEO.

Mr Hopkins thanked โ€œthe Presidents and Boards that I have served under, all of our members who generously give their time to help our industry, and our staff who are dedicated to helping our members run safe, successful, and productive building businessesโ€.
