New Canberra Raiders logo unpopular amongst fans

Canberra Raiders’ fans have been left miffed after the club announced a new logo for the 2024 season.

The club released the redesign on social media and their website last night, Friday 4 August, with members and fans more than happy to voice their displeasure at the changes.

“Nothing wrong with the current one. New one looks old and more cartoonish,” Chicka Chicka Chicka said on the GreenHouse Forum.

The new design appears to be a simpler version of the current one, with the Viking’s beard less bushy, while the helmet and horns are less detailed and his eyes are green to match the beard. The lime green colour has also been darkened to match the current jersey.

The club has had minimal logo changes throughout the years, with the major change occurring in 2000 before a refresh just a few years ago in 2020.

The dislike for the new logo is so severe for some, that the Sydney Milk Syndicate has even started a petition to cancel the changes and keep the logo the same.

More fan reactions to the Raiders logo change

On Facebook, Sandra Maccan thinks the fans should be consulted on changes: “Who comes up with these decisions? Surely get the members to vote on it first, just saying! Hope no one got paid for this modification.”

Gordon Lamond said: “Gives under 12s Minecraft vibes.”

Nick Greenhalgh said: “It’s a shocker – looks like a Scooby Doo Viking!”

Michael Uttley thinks its a good idea to increase 2023 merch sales: “Good way to clear out current merchandise and next year no one will want a top with that on it.”

On Reddit, Babanaoynmous said: “Looks like a knock off team from a mobile game.”

Another Reddit user, yeahilovegrimby, said: “Raiders, in my opinion, have gone from the best logo to the worst.”

One of the few positive reactions came from Peter Ferraro on Facebook: “I like it. Earlier versions way too detailed and never liked them. The simplicity of this harks back to our original (which I love the most). You need a logo kids can draw and this is pretty close.”
