New sculpture for Googong

The main entrance to Googong is now home to a seven-metre-tall sculpture, designed as a โ€œnod to Googongโ€™s local ecology and geologyโ€.

Googong Project Director, Malcolm Leslie, says the sculpture is an โ€œiconic and visual landmarkโ€ and will welcome residents and visitors to the township.

โ€œThe sculpture marks the main entrance to Googong and has been designed to acknowledge the foundations of the natural environment and embrace the โ€˜essence of the Monaroโ€™ unique to the area,โ€ he says.

The sculpture incorporates rusted steel blades to mirror the shape of surface rock strikes and large arches to acknowledge the Monaro Ranges and the patination of the Golden Sun Moth.
