Thirty-five 7kW Ocular chargers have been installed at The Parks residential development in Red Hill, Canberra – one of the largest EV charger installations for a Canberra development.
Thirty-three chargers were installed in residents’ private basement car parks. Two additional chargers will also put in guest car park spaces so visitors can charge their EVs. They will add up to 50 km of range to the EV battery in one hour of charge.
The chargers were installed by ActewAGL, developer Doma, and construction firm BLOC.
The top-of-the-line chargers pair with intuitive Exploren software. Users can pay quickly and easily using the Exploren app, or tap a provided RFID tag to pay for their EV charging on the spot.
“The Parks EV network was very much cutting edge,” Doma’s senior development manager David Jameson said. “We had overcome issues such as load management and registering chargers, which is very complex within a multi-residential environment.”
“BLOC is proud to be part of this iconic development, and looks forward to building a sustainable future in Canberra,” project manager Joe Bartone said.
One in five new cars registered in the ACT is now an EV, and ActewAGL states it wants to future-proof the capital region’s charging infrastructure, and provide accessible EV charging. It has made a commitment that one in four households will drive an EV powered by electricity from sustainable sources by 2030.
“ActewAGL is developing solutions to ensure residents who desire an apartment lifestyle can conveniently own an electric vehicle,” general manager Rachael Turner said. “Working with progressive organisations such as Doma Group and BLOC is one way to meet the needs of EV drivers as we transition towards cleaner transport and our goal of net zero emissions.
“ActewAGL’s public, residential, and commercial EV charging solutions are designed to support a seamless transition to electric vehicles. As the ACT progresses toward a cleaner, more sustainable future, ActewAGL makes it easy for residents and businesses to find, finance, and charge electric vehicles via the award-winning evHub by ActewAGL.”
Doma says it will offer an even larger residential charger network at the Yarralumla Brickworks, a development precinct that will be ready next year.
ActewAGL wants to encourage more sustainable energy solutions in the local community, which it says aligns with the ACT Government’s legislated target to achieve net zero emissions by 2045.
