From today, a new Check In CBR card is available for people without a smartphone, and the Check in CBR app has been updated to provide exposure location alerts.
“The free Check In CBR card provides another option for Canberrans who don’t have a smartphone or are unable to download the app,” said Rachel Stephen-Smith, ACT Minister for Health.
“While venues have been able to check customers in through the business profile, we know that isn’t an ideal solution.”
Each Check In CBR card has its own unique QR code, and customers can simply present it to be scanned using the Check In CBR business profile.
Check-in information collected this way is stored directly with ACT Health in the same way as data collected through the app.
The consumer’s name and phone number are also recorded on the Check In CBR card; if a business cannot scan the QR code, they can enter the person’s details easily from the card.
“This makes it even easier for people, businesses, and contact tracers to play their part in our fight against the spread of COVID-19,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
The Check In CBR card cannot be used where there is no Check In CBR business profile. When using public transport, if people do not have a smart phone, they should use a registered MyWay card.

Check In CBR app updated
The Check In CBR app has been updated to include a new exposure location alert, meaning the app will directly notify users whose check-in matches an exposure location during the relevant date and timeframe.
Consumers will be notified by SMS or push notifications, a message on the home screen of the app, and coloured identifiers displayed in the check-in history.
The check-in history identifies whether sites are close or casual contact, so people can quarantine, get a COVID-19 test, or monitor for symptoms if they need to.
“The new exposure location alert feature responds to feedback from the community,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
“Adding these alerts will make it easier for Canberrans to act quickly if they have potentially been exposed to COVID-19, and help limit the spread of the virus in the community.
“The exposure location notification feature will make the app even better, but it is still important to check the COVID-19 website for all exposure locations in the ACT.”
The app’s birthday was “a good opportunity for everyone to check that their app is up-to-date,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
Since Check In CBR was launched a year ago, several new features have been added, but the app must be updated regularly for them to be available.
Check In CBR has proven vitally important for contact tracing teams, the minister said; every day, they use data to contact people who might be a contact from an exposure location.
Over the last year, the Check In CBR app has recorded 47 million check-ins at nearly 20,000 registered ACT businesses and venues, and been downloaded more than 950,000 times. It has been developed and used in four jurisdictions – ACT, Queensland, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory.
