From Monday 25 October, dedicated school transport routes will resume as more Canberra students head back to school.
Deputy Director-General of Transport Canberra and City Services, Ben McHugh, said 230 dedicated school services will be reinstated as on-campus learning returns to Canberra.
“As school services return, we will continue with the current interim bus timetable on the broader network to ensure regular and frequent services for other users,” Mr McHugh said.
“We ask that everyone using public transport, particularly parents and carers, visit our website and check their travel times. We have made a range of timing changes to both school and regular services to provide better connections across the day for students travelling.”
The broader network’s high level of frequency means most Rapids are running at least every 15 minutes until 8pm on weekdays, along with all local services and the Rapid 10 running at least every 30 minutes. The weekend services will remain the same.
“Keeping the interim timetable in place through the next phases of Canberra’s re-opening is important to ensure we can deliver reliable services for those who need them. This contingency takes into consideration any potential reduction in staff availability as the community continues to comply with ACT health directions,” Mr McHugh said.
“Light rail is continuing to run as normal and will see a timetable change from Monday 1 November, extending the afternoon peak and increased service frequency on Sunday mornings with services every 15 minutes from 7am to 11.30pm (sic). This will help with physical distancing on board at busier times.”
Starting on Monday 25 October, the new timetable will see 4,523 services delivered on weekdays, 1,753 services on Saturday and 1,205 services on Sunday.
Mr McHugh said parents and carers may also want to consider alternative ways for their children to get to school, including walking, riding, park and walk, or scootering.
“We are also asking parents and carers to plan ahead if driving their child to school. We expect to see more traffic around schools with more people continuing to work from home,” Mr McHugh said.
The ACT Government would like to remind riders the safety of passengers and drivers is their number one priority, and to please follow the Covid-Safe guidelines.
