Seven cars were turned around with several cautions and fines issued yesterday, Saturday 14 August, as ACT Policing and NSW Police spoke with 365 drivers at Lanyon Drive on the ACT-NSW border.
ACT Policing and NSW Police have joined forces to check people are complying with COVID-19 health directions during the lockdown period. The two forces are conducting a number of joint patrol activities at major entry points along the border.
ACT Policing Road Policing Superintendent Corey Heldon said people should expect to see these joint operations anywhere, anytime.
โRight now there are COVID-19 health directions which allow and restrict the movement of people who live and work across the border,โ Superintendent Heldon said.
โWe are well connected with many NSW communities and we know everyone is trying to do the right thing. Itโs great to be able to speak to drivers about the new health directions to ensure continued strong compliance.
โWeโre all in this together – everyone must play their part to limit the rate of transmission of coronavirus.
โThere are many roads leading into Canberra and police may be patrolling different roads at the border at different times in the coming days.โ
Monaro Police Area Commander, Superintendent John Klepczarek said the NSW Police Force and ACT Policing continue to have a strong working relationship.
โThe benefits of working closely with our border counterparts enable us to conduct joint operations like these dedicated to ongoing COVID-19 compliance,โ Superintendent Klepczarek said.
โAs we see the virus spreading into regional areas it is vital agencies work together to keep the community safe at this time.โ
