Stolen car involved in four-car collision flees scene

ACT Policing is seeking public assistance following a four-car collision involving a stolen Skoda SUV at the intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and Yamba Drive (near Canberra Hospital) on Friday afternoon, 12 November.

In the early hours of Friday morning, a blue Skoda Kodiaq SUV (ACT registration YNE72E) was stolen from a residence in Wright.

At about 1.30pm, the stolen vehicle was involved in a serious collision with three other vehicles at the intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and Yamba Drive, O’Malley. The collision resulted in one vehicle rolling onto its side. Two people were transported to hospital following the collision.

The Skoda SUV left the scene immediately after the collision, however it was located by police soon after, abandoned in Mawson. It was seized for forensic examination.

Police believe people in another vehicle – a large white 4WD utility – may have assisted the driver of the SUV following the SUV being abandoned.

Police are seeking any witnesses to the collision (who have not already spoken to police) as well as any dashcam footage of the blue Skoda SUV prior to, or after the collision. Information or footage relating to the white 4WD utility is also being sought by police. Either of these vehicles may have been recorded driving erratically earlier in the day.

Anyone that has information that can assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote 6959216. Information can be provided anonymously.
