Stolen car set alight in Belconnen

ACT Policing is investigating a car fire in an underground complex at Grazier Lane, Belconnen.

Yesterday afternoon, Sunday 2 October, officers observed a black Hyundai Kona SUV bearing stolen plates in Latham.

Police deployed stop sticks in an effort to stop the vehicle, however it continued to drive with deflated tyres and failed to stop for police. Out of concern for public safety, police did not pursue the vehicle.

About 11pm, police received reports of the vehicle set alight in a basement with ACT Fire & Rescue on site extinguishing the blaze.

The fire alarm was activated and all apartment blocks as well as a hotel in Grazier Lane were evacuated.

Anyone who may have information on the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or on the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 7554038. Information can be provided anonymously.
