Style your study space

It’s back-to-school and work season again and creating the perfect home office zone is crucial to flourishing within a pandemic world. Start the year on the right foot with Early Settler’s top tips to re-vamp your workspace.

  • Create a dedicated space

If you happen to have a spare room or a bungalow in your home, you’re in luck. An at-home office setup works best if you’ve got a whole room to dedicate it too. But don’t fret if that’s not an option, the next best idea is to get inventive and find a cosy niche, like underneath a quiet staircase, a corner of the bedroom, a converted linen cupboard or even the landing at the top of your stairs.

  • A decent desk

Height, surface space, material, and size – there’s so much more to finding the right desk for you than just somewhere to put your laptop! According to Early Settler, the right desk should be approximately 75-78cm to prevent neck and back pain, along with being able to rest your arms. The recommended surface space sits between 120-150cm.

  • A comfy chair

Late afternoon backaches and constant shoulder tension is often caused by a poor choice of chair. Height-adjustable chairs are well worth investing in to ensure comfort and finding the perfect stature for your form. Caster wheels are an added bonus, allowing you to glide in and out of your desk with ease.

  • Savvy storage

The way your space looks can often affect the way you feel – if your work desk is cluttered and messy, your mind will generally feel the same. To avoid being overwhelmed during your study session or long workday, having savvy storage to store your library books, client notes, files and office accoutrements will help you concentrate on the important things. There’s a range of different storage techniques and styles, so find the one that works for you and keep your space sorted.

  • The right lights

In order to make your space as comfortable as possible, finding the right lighting is paramount to having a room you enjoy spending time in. The right balance of overhead lighting matched with a lamp on a side table allows you to customise the brightness to your liking and adjust throughout the day and seasons. To avoid excessive glare from the window, sheer curtains or blinds may also be beneficial within your lighting plans.

  • Personal décor

The final touches on your study space should be some personal décor that matches your style! Perhaps feature a motivational print, a plush rug, and a few indoor plants to transform the area into a fresh and inspiring space that you’ll enjoy working and studying in.
