A 43-year-old Sydney man has been charged with trespass and ACT health direction offences following an incident at Parliament House today, Wednesday 7 July.
At about 12.40pm today ACT Policing responded to a report of a man attempting to enter Parliament House while not complying with ACT health directions.
Police spoke at length with a 43-year-old man from Sydney and encouraged him to comply with the directions regarding mask wearing and applying for an exemption to be in the ACT. He chose not to.
He was subsequently arrested and transported to the ACT Watch House. He was charged with trespass and failing to comply with ACT health directions. He is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow, Thursday 8 July.
ACT Policing stated police are generally pleased with the compliance of ACT residents and visitors with the current health directions. However, where blatant or deliberate non-compliance occurs “we will not hesitate to act”, ACT Policing said in a statement.
