Take 5 with Laura Dawson of The Beanies

Hot off the back of an enormous win on reality TV show Shark Tank Australia, The Beanies bring their bright and bouncy childrenโ€™s adventure show to The Q – Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre on 7 October. CW caught up with Canberra-born Laura Beanie (aka Laura Dawson) to discuss ‘the Sharks’, childrenโ€™s entertainment, and the future.

1. Tell us about the show.

The Beanies EGG-Straordinary Day is a musical adventure for the whole family. Mini-Beanies will laugh and learn when Professor Know-It-All challenges The Beanies to care for an egg for one hour. How hard-boiled can it be?

Featuring confetti cannons, sneaky robbers, and VERY silly jokes, The Beanies EGG-Straordinary Day is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for Mini-Beanies and their big people.

Weโ€™re so excited to bring this back to The Q, as it was actually the first venue this show toured back in 2020! As this will be the last performance of EGG-Straordinary Day for a while, it seems very fitting to be back in Queanbeyan for a full-circle moment.

2.What drew you to children’s entertainment?

It truly is the most enjoyable job in the world. Making kids happy, creating sincerely silly content and working with your best mates – what more could you want?

3. What made you decide to go on Shark Tank?

Honestly, we applied as a funny joke! We included things like โ€œWho are your biggest competitors?โ€ and we answered โ€œGreen beans, baked beans, jelly beans โ€ฆโ€ The producers took to the idea and the next thing we knew, we were writing a proper Shark Tank pitch!

4. How was the Shark Tank experience?

It was very different to the situations we usually find ourselves in. For us, the challenge was to take our trademark Beanies silliness into a situation which is usually VERY serious. It turns out the Sharks were just like kids and responded to our Beanies fun with just as much enthusiasm!

5. What does the future look like for The Beanies?

Weโ€™ve got a lot of exciting plans in the works including more TV content, live concert shows and heaps of content on YouTube. Weโ€™d love our loyal Canberra Mini Beanies to follow us there so they donโ€™t miss any of the action!

Catch all the action in The Beanies EGG-Straordinary Day at The Q – Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 7 October 10am and 12.30pm; theq.net.au
