Following the Matildas dominant 4-0 victory this evening against Canada in the World Cup, Canberrans will be able to cheer on the Aussies in the round of 16 at a free public screening in Garema place on Monday 7 August.
“We know Canberrans love their football and are great supporters of women’s sport. This is an opportunity to join with other football fans and enjoy all the buzz and community spirit of the Women’s World Cup,” said Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry.
“We’ll also be encouraging local businesses in the surrounding area to get involved in the event and add to the game day atmosphere.’
Timing and further details will be confirmed next week when the Group matches are complete. Canberrans will be able to get further information in the coming days at events.canberra.com.au
“Our thanks also go to the University of Canberra who have been hosting Canberrans for Watch Parties during the Group matches.
“It’s not too late to catch UC’s PLAY ON! Exhibition celebrating women’s football. It is on until 31 August in the UC Refectory and is proudly supported by the ACT Government,” Minister Berry said.
