What’s on in Canberra this weekend 4-6 March

What’s NOT on in Canberra this weekend, is more the question. With all the fun and excitement of the Enlighten Festival making a welcome return to the national capital, there’s so much happening it’s almost – but not quite – overwhelming.

Here are just a few highlights.

Enlighten Festival: A packed program of art, events and entertainment across the city over 17 days, 4-20 March. Much of it is free including the very popular Enlighten Illuminations that switch on at 7.30pm tonight and run over 11 nights from 4 to 14 March; enlightencanberra.com

Surface Festival: 35 urban artists will transform the built environment of Braddon, Civic and the National Triangle in Canberra’s first major urban street art festival this weekend, 4-6 March. Artists encompassing street art, graffiti, portraits, stencils, Indigenous art, geometric and abstract art will work across 30 walls and structures; surfacefest.com.au

Winther Quartet: The talented foursome perform music by Mozart, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Tchaikovsky at The B (Bicentennial Hall), Queanbeyan, Friday 4 March 8pm; theq.net.au

Van Gogh Alive – the Experience: Audiences will have the unique opportunity to fully experience Van Gogh’s artistry and truly immerse themselves in his world as they wander – and wonder – through the Grand Pavilion constructed at Parkes Place Lawns in Canberra’s National Triangle, 5-20 March. It’s art as you’ve never experienced it before. Tickets via vangoghalive.com.au

Sculpture@Shaw: An exhibition of sculptures by local and international artists at Shaw Wines, in Canberra Region wine country at Murrumbateman NSW, 5-20 March; sculptureatshaw.com.au

Humble House Gallery: A solo exhibition by Chrissy Lloyd, Flinders Ranges to Birdsville – A journey with my brush, is on display at Humble House Gallery, 93 Wollongong Street, Fyshwick opens on Saturday 5 March and continues until 10 April; humblehouse.com.au

Kim Yang & Band: Performs a vinyl record launch concert for new release Ocean of Mind/Brave at Smith’s Alternative, Sunday 6 March 4pm; smithsalternative.com
