When and where to support Ukraine in Canberra this weekend

Canberrans have been rallying in support of Ukraine since the Russian invasion began. Here’s when and where you can pray and show your support for the people of Ukraine this weekend in Canberra.

Rally

When: Friday 4 March 12.30pm

Where: European Union, 18 Arkana St, Yarralumla

A rally will be held outside the office of the European Union at 12.30pm today.

Candelight vigil

When: Friday 4 March 5.30pm

Where: Chess Board, Garema Place, Civic

A candlelight vigil calling for peace in Ukraine and protesting against the AUKUS military alliance will be held in Civic on Friday 4 March, by No War, No AUKUS ACT. In a statement, organisers say it will be a mostly silent candlelight vigil to call for peace in Ukraine, with an introduction by Sue Wareham of the Medical Association for the Prevention of War.

Protest

When: Saturday 5 March 10am

Where: Russian Embassy, 78 Canberra Avenue, Griffith

Peaceful demonstrations outside the Russian Embassy have been protesting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine every day this week and will be taking to the streets again this Saturday.

Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser

The Canberra Polish community is holding a sausage sizzle fundraiser at the White Eagle Polish Club, 38 David Street, Turner on Saturday 5 March 12-5pm.

Prayer Service

When: Sunday 6 March 11.30am

Where: Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 6 McKay Gardens, Turner

A vigil is being held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the congregation welcome all of Canberra to join them in praying for Ukraine.

Fundraiser

When: Sunday 6 March 12pm-5pm

Where: Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 6 McKay Gardens, Turner

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church are holding a fundraiser for Ukraine. There will be a sausage sizzle, and you will also be able to purchase traditional Ukrainian sweets and Ukrainian themed merchandise. Donations will go towards humanitarian needs and support for Ukrainians via the Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
