The younger generation will be out in force tomorrow, making their voices heard on the issue of climate change and the Federal Government’s moves toward a gas-led economic recovery.
Led by the star-spangled Super Freak, Extinction Rebellion ACT will target Canberra’s peak hour traffic bringing the “Discobedience Dance Squad” to the Northbourne Avenue and Alinga Street intersection from 4pm to 5.30pm for a dance show and a chat with any interested parties.
An Extinction Rebellion spokesperson said the climate and ecological crisis, extreme weather and unprecedented bushfire season had affected Australians, their livelihoods and homes.
“Our country – with the potential to be a renewable energy superpower, missing this once in a century opportunity, and a corrupt government so hellbent on a gas-led recovery, they are interfering with the free market to make that happen,” they said.
“With the Government about to hand down a Federal budget that will spend our tax money to prop up a dying gas industry, when a clean and renewable future is within our grasp, it is critical that we make our voices heard and our moves seen.”
They will be protesting on the back of the School Strike for Climate at Parliament House at 10.30am tomorrow, Friday 25 September.
“We demand this puppet show of a government fund our future, not gas,” the Extinction Rebellion spokesperson said.
“So come and join us from 4.30 to 5.30pm or from 4pm if you’d like to speak to the star-spangled Super Freak before he once again dons his platforms for climate action.”
