Enlighten Illuminations light up the National Triangle

With Enlighten Festival now underway, Canberra’s national institutions and attractions have been lighting up this week with a series of stunning architectural projections combining light, sound and movement to create an enthralling experience. The Enlighten Illuminations continue until Monday 14 March.

Melbourne based artist Daniel Crooks was commissioned to illuminate the National Gallery of Australia’s façade for the 2022 Enlighten Festival. Crooks’ project celebrates the brutalist design of the original National Gallery building by architect, Col Madigan, beautifully complementing the building’s imposing frontage. In the masterful light of Crooks’ genius, the building seems to transform and move before your very eyes. Seeing is believing. Photo: NGA

The National Library of Australia has once again been transformed into a living mural as part of Enlighten. Alongside the light show, the Library has enlisted some of Canberra’s finest circus performers to entertain festivalgoers with fire spinning, hula hooping, stilt walking and bubble art. Questacon‘s illumination projections cycles through four themes this year: a portrait honouring Questacon’s founder, Professor Michael Gore AO, who passed away earlier this year; one all abouts Mars (pictured); a feature collection of staff-led science demonstrations; and a collage of Questacon exhibits and activities. While the Illuminations end on 14 March, the Enlighten Festival program continues until 20 March; visit enlightencanberra.com to find out more.
