Overnight the ACT has seen four new cases, three more admissions of COVID-19 patients to Canberra hospitals, and the recording of five more recoveries.
While there were five new confirmed ACT cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, after further testing a previously confirmed case has been ruled to not have COVID-19, which brings the Territory’s total to 84.
It’s for this reason that the ACT’s total has only increased by four today despite five new confirmed cases of COVID-19.
ACT Health say they take a “very precautionary” approach to classifying indeterminate tests that indicate a probable positive result.
In cases where the indeterminate tests indicate it is more likely to be positive than not, the individual is classified as a confirmed case until further testing can provide a more definitive result.
As with other confirmed cases, thorough contact tracing is undertaken.
The new cases consist of three males and two females, aged between 27 and 79. Four of the new cases are linked to overseas travel, including on cruise ships, and one is a close contact of a previous confirmed case.
One case is still under investigation by ACT Health, while they confirm there remains no evidence of community transmission in the ACT.
A total of eight cases have recovered from COVID-19 and have been released from self-isolation. The rest are isolating at home with ACT Health support.
There have been 4,774 negative COVID-19 tests in the ACT to date.
