Another wild storm causes chaos across Canberra

Canberra has been lashed by yet another significant storm, with heavy rain causing all sorts of trouble across the city.

There was flooding across large parts of the city, with Lake Burley Griffin overflowing with water, while many roads, ovals and drains were impacted heavily.

Footage posted to social media also showed some crazy scenes across the city with a car flipped on Parkes Way and a burst gas pipe in Kaleen producing flames.

Lake Burley Griffin recorded 70mm of rain, while Curtin had 54mm, Queanbeyan 50mm, Tuggeranong 48mm and Canberra Airport 29.6mm.

Meanwhile, the ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has already received almost requests for assistance.

Volunteers and ACT Emergency Service Agency staff from across Canberra are out and about attending to jobs as quickly as possible. If there’s a threat to life or property, rest assured emergency services will always be available.

However, for smaller jobs, like a leaking roof, or water that has subsided, sometimes it can take additional time for crews to attend, your patience is appreciated.

For assistance in a storm or flood, call the ACTSES on 132 500.
