Burglary suspects face ACT court today

A 21-year-old Bonner man and a 20-year-old man from Sutton, NSW, will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged over an aggravated burglary in Belconnen.

Last night, about 12.35am, the two men – as well as a third, as-yet-unidentified man – allegedly forced their way into Westfield Belconnen, broke into the CeX Electronics store, and stole various items.

The men then fled the scene on foot.

Westfield Security observed the alleged burglary on CCTV.

A short time later, following the security report, ACT police patrolling Cohen Street, Belconnen, spotted the 21-year-old man, and arrested him after a short foot pursuit.

About 1am, police found the 20-year-old man hiding in a hedge on Cameron Avenue, Belconnen, and arrested him, also. A black backpack was allegedly found nearby, which contained 16 mobile phones believed to have been stolen during the burglary.

Both men have been charged with one count each of aggravated burglary – intent to commit theft.

Investigations into the identity of the third man are ongoing.

Anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 7462712.
