Canberra records 1078 new COVID cases, 23 in hospital

Canberra has recorded 1,078 new COVID cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night as the number of people in hospital dropped.

The news comes a day after the ACT recorded a new daily high with 1,508 COVID cases and one death, a man in his 80s.

The number of patients in hospital with the virus has dropped by five to 23. Three people are in intensive care with two requiring ventilation.

Active COVID-19 cases in Canberra have also dropped to 5,601, while the total infections during the Canberra outbreak is up to 15,834.

Over a quarter of ACT residents aged 18 and over have received a booster shot with 25.6 per cent now having had a third dose. The ‘fully vaccinated’ rate rose fractionally to 98.6 per cent.

3,586 negative PCR tests were returned in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, NSW recorded 34,759 new cases and 21 deaths while Queanbeyan has 204 fresh infections.
