Canberra Daily’s 2021 in review: September

In September, we ordered in for Father’s Day, supporting the local restaurants and eateries that pivoted in lockdown. Our separation from neighbour Queanbeyan continued, we felt an earthquake that shook Victoria, and finally glimpsed the ACT’s pathway out of lockdown.

Order in for Father’s Day

Father’s Day 2021 saw adult children everywhere scrambling for options to treat Dad without switching on the stove. Some local restaurants jumped on the opportunity, offering Father’s Day specials for pickup and delivery. Memorable favourites include a collaboration between Brodburger and Capital Brewing Co, for the beer-and-burger dads, and Amici’s curated packs for dads that moonlight as wine and cheese connoisseurs.

These “low risk” areas were classified as such by having zero COVID cases for at least 14 days.

Houses in Melbourne shook and movement from the earthquake could even be felt in Canberra’s Parliament House, causing a flurry on social media.

Changes to lockdown restrictions came into effect from 12.01am Friday 1 October, with more expansive easing then previously stated, in line with national vaccination numbers. ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr announced that from the start of October, two people would be legally permitted to visit another household at any time, while time outside the home doubled to four hours a day.
