Deck the halls with DIY

Get into the festive spirit with these Christmas craft projects! Deck out your home with this elegant and stylish wreath project from Pillow Talk, or get the kids involved and create some super cute and simple coasters with a DIY from Bunnings.

Christmas wreath

You will need

  • 8 x willow stems (available at Pillow Talk)
  • 2 x berry branches (available at Pillow Talk)
  • Scissors
  • Fishing line

1. Curve and mould each willow branch into a semi-circle.

2. Continue adding stems until your wreath is a full circle.

3. Tie each stem together at the base, securing it with fishing line.

4. Once your willow wreath is completed, it’s time to add the berries!

5. Break each berry branch into three, creating six stems. Wedge each stem into the wreath, manipulating the smaller branches to style with a lifelike 3D effect.

Christmas coasters

You will need

  • Drop sheet
  • Primer
  • Spray paint or craft paint
  • Painters tape
  • Cork tile
  • Gloves
  • Dust mask
  • Protective goggles
  • Sealer/top coat
  • Stanley knife
  • Metal ruler
  • Pen
  • Sand paper

Instructions

1. Measure your coaster size on cork with a ruler and mark with a pen. We have done 10cm x 10cm for each coaster.

2. Using a metal ruler and Stanley knife, cut the cork to the size you marked.

3. Sand each side of the cork coasters with sand paper until the edges are smooth.

4. Using painters tape, mark your desired geometric patterns on each of the cork coasters. Anything you tape will remain as cork in your finished project.

5. Once you have marked your patterns with tape, use a primer to give your coasters an undercoat.

6. Once the primer is dry, paint the first colour on your cork and leave to dry. Repeat the process, with alternate colours for each section of your desired pattern.

7. Once the paint is completely dry, remove the tape markers from the cork coasters to reveal your design.

8. To seal your coasters, spray with a waterproof top coat and they are ready to go!

Tip: Wear protective goggles, dust mask and gloves when sanding and painting.
