Double demerits for Labour Day long weekend in ACT and NSW

Double demerits come into effect across the ACT and NSW this Labour Day long weekend, ACT Policing and NSW Police remind road users.

Double demerits will apply from 12am Friday morning, 29 September (midnight tonight) until 11.59pm Monday 2 October inclusive.

During this period, double demerits will apply to all speeding, seatbelt, and mobile phone offences.

All other traffic offences will attract an additional demerit point.

Detective Superintendent Matt Craft, Officer in Charge of ACT Road Policing, has said that he hoped Canberrans have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

“We always see an increase of traffic on our roads this time of year, so please take care, be mindful of the environment around you and drive to the conditions,” Superintendent Craft said.

“Thankfully, we have seen a significant reduction of deaths on Canberra roads this year compared to last year. In saying this, one death is always one too many.”
