Eight Extinction Rebellion ACT protestors faced court yesterday charged with defacing public property following protest activity at the John Gorton Building in Parkes ACT on Friday 6 August.
The protestors had entered the building foyer and police allege paint was deliberately sprayed and spilled inside the building, which houses the federal Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. Several of the protestors also super-glued their hands onto the floor and fixtures in the building, causing damage to the building foyer.
AFP Search and Rescue personnel attended to assist in removing the Extinction Rebellion protestors who had glued themselves to the building.
ACT Policing arrested six men, aged 22, 30, 32, 63, 64 and 77, and two women aged 48 and 59. They refused to accept bail from police and appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday, Saturday 7 August, charged with defacing public property.
