Many hands make light (bulb) work

It was a case of many hands make light work planting spring bulbs and annuals in and around Kingston today as part of the ACT Government’s plan to spread the colour of this year’s “Floriade Reimagined” festival across Canberra due to COVID-19.

The Kingston Barton Residents Group joined forces with other local community groups – including Friends of Manuka Pool and the Kingston Organic Community Garden – along with local business owners and residents to start a mass planting of spring bulbs and annuals around Canberra’s oldest shopping precinct.

Dozens of enthusiastic volunteers braved the crisp, bright late autumn day to don hi-viz vests and gardening gloves and plant out numerous garden beds along Jardine Street and Green Square.

The ACT Government has reallocated thousands of bulbs and annuals initially intended for planting at the usual Floriade site in Commonwealth Park to suburbs across Canberra.

We’re looking forward to seeing how all the flower beds across the city will look come springtime.
