Marymead and CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn join forces

Marymead and CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn have come together as Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn, following the official launch of the new single entity on 30 June.

“This is a huge milestone day for us,” Marymead CatholicCare CEO Anne Kirwan said at the merger launch event last week.

“We begin a new chapter in our caring journey, and we are incredibly proud that our foundations hold the stories of courageous, passionate, hard-working, committed women and men who rolled up their sleeves to provide essential services and spiritual support during critical periods in the lives of others,” Ms Kirwan said.

For over 60 years, both organisations have supported communities in Canberra and the surrounding regions.  CatholicCare formed in 1957, establishing various Catholic initiatives to support refugees and migrants, single parents, isolated homeless youth, families experiencing conflict and relationship breakdown.

Marymead formed 10 years later, in 1967, when sisters from the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary arrived in Canberra to deliver much needed accommodation facilities and services for children and families in crisis.

Together, Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn has a clear mission: To provide services and be there for people in times of need, making a positive difference, across the lifespan.

“In coming together, we are not interested in being the biggest, but we are ambitious to be providers of excellence within our areas of expertise, delivering evidence-based services that make a real difference in the lives of those we encounter and support,” Ms Kirwan said.

The coming together of the two organisations allows for a wider range of services to reach more people in need, while providing a stronger and more unified voice for individuals and families in the community.

Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn deliver person-centred services, including: Children & young people’s services; family and relationship supports; counselling and therapeutic supports; out of home and foster care; alcohol and other drug supports; mental health; homelessness services; tenancy and property management; supported accommodation; disability care and support; retirement living; aged care.
