Nominations open for ACT disability awards

Canberrans can nominate people with disability, or businesses and individuals who create a more inclusive Canberra for the 2023 Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards.

The Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards celebrate people with disability who are leaders in the community. They also recognise the outstanding achievements of businesses, organisations. and individuals who encourage, welcome, and support people with disability in their workplace, business, and community.

“These awards are an important celebration of the individuals and businesses committed to supporting people with disability and creating an inclusive community,” Chief Minister Andrew Barr said. “I encourage Canberrans to nominate those who deserve to be recognised for their dedication to inclusion.”

The Inclusion Awards will be presented at a gala event on Wednesday 6 December, and will feature 12 awards across four categories:

  • Recognising people with disability who are leaders in inclusion;
  • Excellence and innovation in community access and inclusion;
  • Achieving inclusion through supporting the independence and wellbeing of people with disability;
  • Championing rights, protection, and justice.

The Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence will be presented to one of the winners.

“These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of people with disability in our community, and to value allies of people with disability working to change the world for the better,” Emma Davidson, ACT Minister for Disability, said.

“If we’re going to build a better world, we have to do things differently. We need people who see things differently, have different life experiences, think differently.”

“The Inclusion Awards continue to provide a fantastic platform to showcase the outstanding achievements of people with disability in Canberra,” David Smith, chair of the ACT Inclusion Council, said. “Plus highlighting the excellent work of many businesses and organisations who have considered how they can be more accessible and inclusive. With more than 80 nominations received in 2022, I’m looking forward to seeing who will be nominated this year.”

David Smith is not the Labor MP.
