Are you wanting to do something to help the neglected and abandoned animals, but worried that your donation isn’t enough to make a sizeable difference?
Today, Thursday 6 October, RSPCA’s Give to Get Them Home runs for just 24 hours with generous donors promising to double every donation made up to a total of $55,000, which would see the funds increased to $110,000 for the organisation that is committed to ensuring the safety of animals in our region.
Throughout the last financial year, RSPCA ACT took 2,225 animals into their care, looking after their medical needs, feeding, and caring for them, and helping many find new homes.
The organisation heavily relies on fundraising efforts, which make up almost 70 per cent of its total income. RSPCA ACT CEO Michelle Robertson says it is because of the community that they can save, care for, rehabilitate and nurse animals back to health. It allows them to treat sick animals in their vet clinic, supports shelter staff in finding animals homes, and sees that inspectors can continue their work on the road.
Ms Robertson knows that times are tough for people, especially with rising costs of living. However, she says Give to Get Them Home is a great way to make the most of however little we can give.
“We know Canberrans are feeling the strain in their back pockets, so dollar-matching fundraising events are a wonderful way for even the smallest donation to make a big difference,” she says.
They understand not everyone will be able to make a donation and are encouraging them to support RSPCA in other ways. These include:
- Simply loving your pets and being a responsible pet owner; hopefully this can encourage others to do the same
- Volunteering time to help RSPCA or any other reputable animal shelter or rescue group
- Spreading the word to raise awareness of RSPCA’s mission to prevent cruelty to animals and getting them recognised as sentient beings.
RSPCA thanks their generous supporters involved in doubling the funds raised during Give to Get Them Home: the national partners include Elanco, Peter Alexander, and Royal Canin; local partners are Songland Records, Casino Canberra, Capital Lend, The Book Cow, Pixel Monster, Working Gear, and Central Park Pet Styling.
