Take 5 with Brent Pace, producer of A Taste of Ireland

After two decades of touring the globe, Irish dance sensation Brent Pace created the Pace Live Entertainment Group. The company brings the showstopping A Taste of Ireland – The Irish Music & Dance Sensation to Canberra Theatre on Saturday 21 October.

  1. Tell us about the show.

A Taste of Ireland is far more than just a show; it’s a captivating journey through the vibrant tapestry of Irish traditions and history. We delve into the heart of Ireland, narrating stories like the Easter Rising, the famine, the legacy of Brian Boru, and even the influence of the Vikings.

What sets us apart is our incorporation of ‘craic’, the Irish spirit of fun and enjoyment. Unlike traditional Irish concert-style performances, we create an interactive experience, engaging directly with our audience. Our exceptional cast comprises world champions from Lord of the Dance, seamlessly intertwined with Australia’s finest local talents.

  1. What drew you to Irish dancing?

Irish dancing has been a significant part of my life since childhood, largely due to my mother, a respected Irish dancing teacher in Melbourne. Growing up, I practically lived in dancing halls, attending competitions both in Australia and globally.

The pivotal moment came when I was captivated by the iconic Riverdance performance during the Eurovision half-time show. I knew that was what I wanted to do.

  1. Do you have any career highlights?

From competing to performing, I have travelled across the globe, but in saying that, producing my own show and taking it on a global tour is undoubtedly a standout career highlight.

It’s an incredible feeling to see something you’ve poured your heart into come to life on stages around the world. However, nothing quite compares to the sheer joy of bringing that show back to my home country.

  1. Why are audiences drawn to Irish dancing?

Its incredible athleticism, rooted tradition, and infectious energy. The intricate footwork, steeped in history and culture, showcases impressive skill. The passion of dancers, combined with lively music and vibrant costumes creates a visually stunning and emotionally engaging experience.

  1. What’s next?

I’m excited about the future! Balancing my career with being a parent to my 18-month-old daughter is a priority. There are also new shows in the pipeline, and we’re gearing up for international tours, promising more thrilling performances and memorable experiences.
